Program Philosophy

The mission of Independiente, Juntos is to enhance the quality of life of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and their families by supporting their choices as adults and increasing access to a full range of activities and services available in their community. Additionally, our service design and delivery can provide customized support for the unique language and cultural needs of Spanish speaking individuals and families in San Diego County. Independiente, Juntos (or iJuntos) is guided by the philosophy that programs and resources for adults with I/DD should be culturally responsive, focused on self-determination, and provide opportunities for building marketable job skills within a strong network of peer and family support. We serve young adults with a flexible and modern approach uniquely structured on a cohort framework. It offers a flexible schedule coupled with proven techniques for building skills, relationships, and personal support structures.
